While I was slightly jet-lagged, sitting on a chair, waiting for a hotel room in Dubai, I received a booking to speak at the Association’s Indaba.
While sitting in the room at the Maslow Hotel in Sandton, I could immerse myself in the world of associations and had to dig deep to apply my message to them.
I realized that I had served 9 years on the Leadership of Toastmasters International and 3 years at the Professional Speakers Association. So, I had to find stories, examples, and applications from those days that could help this audience now.
Some of those pain points:
- people attending free events but not converting into members
- a lack of member engagement and low attendance at events
My talk: “How to make the Horse Thirsty” had these takeaways:
👉Become the Maven, build connections and become a salesperson.
👉Build your authority and Personal brand so that others take you seriously, and this will increase your influence.
👉Build connections and networks within your organisation. Know all the role-players, not just the economic buyers. Don’t rush into the sale; build a connection first.
👉Apply persuasion tactics like reciprocity and scarcity to create a sense of urgency.
